Research Materials: Timelines
Mary's Wedding, 2009
This is a timeline that I created for the play Mary's Wedding by Stephen Massicote as part of my internship at City Theatre Co. in Pittsburgh. It follows Charlie's journey with the Canadian Cavalry Brigade (above) and compares it to the major milestones of the WWII (below).
London Cuckolds, 2009
I created this timeline to explain the events of the Restoration in 17th Century England. It was intended to give the actors a sense of the political and social turmoil and relief that occurred prior to the writing of Edward Ravenscroft's play The London Cuckolds.
Moliere, 2007
This timeline was put together for a production of Moliere's Sganarelle as part of the Junior Performance Projects at Carnegie Mellon University. It lists the notable events of Moliere's life with reference to major world events of the 17th Century.
Research Materials: Actors' Packets
I wanted these actors' packets not only to inform the actors, but also to help them get into the world of the play. Since the world we were creating was half-way between Restoration London and the present-day, I chose a modern medium (magazines) and filled it with period content.
Cuckolds, 2009: Husbands
This is the first actor packet I created for The London Cuckolds. Modeled after Time Magazine, it was intended to give the actors a feel for what their characters, the old Husbands, would have been interested in/concerned with.
Cuckolds, 2009: Lovers
I modeled this magazine on Playboy and attempted to capture the cavalier spirit of the gentlemen and rakes as portrayed in The London Cuckolds. Designed to entertain as well as educate, it even includes a photo spread of the mistresses of Charles II.
Cuckolds, 2009: Wives
My final actor's packet for The London Cuckolds was designed for the three wives. It discusses make-up tips, fan language, literature, and how to pick up a lover while your husband isn't looking.
Production Pieces: Program Notes
London Cuckolds
My program notes for The London Cuckolds were written to help ground the audience quickly in the political/social background of the period in order to help them understand the stakes of the play.
Rachel Corrie
This was written for a shortened staging of My Name is Rachel Corrie that was part of Carnegie Mellon's Playground Festival. The notes reflect the students' desire to explore a controversial issue without choosing sides or making judgments.
The Lunatic Queen, The Herbal Ben, Arms and the Man
During my time at Drama Centre London, I was able to work with the Third Year Performance Projects. These are the brief notes that I wrote for the programs for each of these shows.
Lobby Display: London Cuckolds
In my lobby display for The London Cuckolds, I played on the themes of feminism and marriage that I saw in the play. The beautiful wives who cheat on their old, wealthy husbands with impoverished young noblemen are living in the proverbial Gilded Cage: luxury without freedom.
